Here's what you can expect after making an appointment by phone or online.

Initial Examination

At your first visit we will look at the health of your eyes; discuss your general health, any family history of eye disease and the particular issues which have caused you to look for help. These may include:

  • blurry vision making reading difficult at short or long range
  • headache or eye strain after spells at the computer
  • glare problems when driving, especially at night

We will determine whether your eyes need optical correction (spectacles or contact lenses) as a result of short-sightedness, long-sightedness, or astigmatism. We will then ensure you have the product or correction that best suits you.

Next steps

We thoroughly test your eyes for problem conditions and serious diseases which may have long term affects, such as glaucoma – pressure within the eyeball leading to loss of sight; and macular degeneration – a progressive condition affecting the ability to see fine detail and recognise faces.

If we find any issues with your eyes, Kay Street Eyecare practitioners have the expertise, experience and equipment to handle extra testing on-site.

Diabetes sufferers are more likely to have changes to the small blood vessels in the retina which if severe can then lead to vision loss. We will administer pupil dilating drops during your test to thoroughly examine for any changes. Note you may experience light sensitivity and blurred vision and may not feel comfortable driving for several
hours afterwards.

Cataracts are a common development where the lens inside the eye loses clarity, usually as a result of normal ageing of the eye. When it starts to interfere with vision, referral to an ophthalmologist is required for surgical removal and replacement with an artificial lens.

Specialised care

Depending on your condition, it is commonplace for Kay St Eyecare to coordinate and co-manage treatment with local or Melbourne eye specialists. We are consultants for refractive surgery and low vision assessments. Having your tests done locally saves travel time, expense and inconvenience. The result is minimal travel and maximum care.
