Retinal imagery enables us to photograph the back of your eyes to assess the retina, blood vessels and optic nerve. This helps in obtaining an overall health check, specifically the early detection of disease that can affect your vision, including macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetes and hypertension. As of September 2016 we have owned the Eidon Wide Field Retinal Camera, allowing high quality imaging of the peripheral retina. This test is non-invasive and pain free.
Using a specialised high definition OCT retinal camera, a 3D digital image is easily taken of your eyes and uploaded onto a computer to interpret and record almost instantly. We store the electronic copy to compare the findings at your next visit.
Some procedures do not attract a Medicare rebate – please ask for exact costs.
How well your child sees at school is very important to their overall development. Many children try to adapt to their vision problem without knowing they could see better. The Optometrists Association Australia recommends children have a full eye examination with an optometrist before starting school and regularly throughout their school years.
Testing is fun and enjoyable for children, with a range of (carefully disguised) activities to assess whether your child's vision is appropriate for age level. This is essential to aid the development of literacy and numeracy skills.
Signs of possible vision problems include: one eye turning in or out while the other is straight; frequent blinking; rubbing eyes; sensitivity to light; holding book very close to read; squinting or sitting very close when watching TV; complaints of headaches; poor hand-eye coordination; complaints of blurred or double vision; leaving out or confusing words when reading.
If you or your school have any concerns over your child's vision, talk to Kay Street Eyecare about an assessment.
